Branding the adidas tailgate for the largest women's sporting event in world history
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln hosted Volleyball Day in Nebraska, the largest women's sporting event in history with a record of 92,003 people in attendance. The Huskers played an outdoor match inside Memorial Stadium, and adidas hosted the official tailgate for the event. The ask was to brand the event, Rally at the Coliseum, as well as the supporting marketing materials and fan merchandise. The mark itself mixed both adidas fonts and script lettering similar to what would be on a fan poster, showing the connection between the athletes and those in attendance. The icon showcases a volleyball lifting up the iconic pillars at the University Coliseum, the original home of Husker Volleyball and the location of the tailgate.
At the event, you could find an interactive volleyball net wrapped in the brand where fans could write notes to the players, stencils for kids to make large posters to bring into the match, and fan merch like enamel pins, lanyards, banners, patches, and more. In college I was a graphic design intern for Husker Athletics and was assigned to Husker Volleyball for over two years, so being a part of this once in a lifetime experience was a dream come true!
